Embarking on the journey to become an IBPS Clerk requires a clear understanding of each step. This guide will walk you through the entire selection process, from your initial application to receiving your provisional allotment letter.
Selection Stages
Apply Online
This is your first step! Candidates must apply online through the official IBPS website (www.ibps.in) between August 1, 2026, and August 21, 2026. The process involves registering, filling in your personal and educational details, uploading necessary documents, and paying the application fee. Ensure all details are accurate as this forms the basis of your candidature.
Preliminary Examination
After applying, you'll sit for an online preliminary examination. This stage is qualifying in nature, meaning the marks you score here will not be counted towards your final merit list. However, it's crucial to clear both the sectional and overall cut-offs to progress. Only candidates who qualify in the Prelims will be eligible for the next stage.
Main Examination
Successfully clearing the Preliminary Examination opens the door to the online Main Examination. This is the most critical stage, as the marks you obtain here will be the sole determinant for your final merit list. Perform your best to secure a high score and increase your chances of selection.
Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)
Candidates who are provisionally shortlisted based on their performance in the Mains examination will need to appear for a Local Language Proficiency Test. This test is qualifying in nature and is conducted offline. It assesses your proficiency in the official local language of the state/UT for which you have applied. Failing to qualify this test will result in non-appointment, irrespective of your Mains score.
Provisional Allotment
The final step in your journey! Candidates who make it to the final merit list (based on their Mains exam marks) and successfully clear the LLPT will be provisionally allotted to one of the participating public sector banks. This allotment is done based on your merit, category, and the bank preferences you indicated during your application.
How The Final Merit Is Made
The final merit list for the IBPS Clerk (CRP-XVI) 2026 recruitment is computed solely based on the marks obtained in the Online Main Examination. The scores are evaluated out of 100 marks after applying a normalization process for cut-off calculation. Marks from the Preliminary Examination and the Local Language Proficiency Test are only for qualification and do not contribute to the final merit score.
