Securing a Probationary Officer post through IBPS PO requires clearing a structured three-stage evaluation process designed to test aptitude, core subject knowledge, and leadership potential. Candidates must successfully navigate through Prelims, Mains, and the Common Interview to receive provisional allotment in participating public sector banks.
Selection Stages
Apply online
Candidates register and submit their applications through the official IBPS portal during the active registration window, paying the required fees and uploading essential documents.
Preliminary Examination
Candidates take an online objective exam consisting of English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. Clearing sectional and overall cut-offs shortlists candidates for the Mains exam, though Prelims marks do not count toward final merit.
Main Examination
Shortlisted candidates appear for the comprehensive online Main Examination, which includes both objective test papers and a descriptive test (Letter Writing & Essay). Scores from this stage directly impact final merit.
Personality Test
Candidates shortlisted through the Main Examination complete a mandatory Personality Test prior to attending the formal interview session.
Common Interview
Qualified candidates participate in a Common Interview conducted by participating banks and coordinated by the Nodal Bank, evaluated out of a total of 100 marks.
Provisional Allotment
Final allotment to one of the participating banks is awarded based on combined Mains and Interview merit, taking into account category reservations and official vacancy tallies.
How The Final Merit Is Made
The final selection list is created strictly on the combined performance in the Online Main Examination and the Common Interview. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are qualifying in nature and are not added to the final score.
The relative weightage assigned to the Main Examination and the Interview is 80:20 respectively. Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in both the Mains exam and the Interview independently to be considered for provisional allotment.
