Four promises
A public domain poem or anthem is printed word for word. A protected song gets its first line, its meaning, its pace and a link to the text. Never a reprint.
Every line comes twice: the plain words, and the words with the stressed syllables in capitals and the pauses marked, so you know where to lean.
An anthem or a hymn tells you what the room does before the first line: stand, hands, hats, the silence after. The country's rule, not ours.
A sung piece carries its key, its tempo and where to breathe, with a reference note and a metronome on the page.
